Lanson Champagne
Lanson was founded in 1760 by François Delamotte, who was a magistrate in Reims,
and today it is one of the oldest Champagne Houses. Nicolas-Louis Delamotte, son
of François Delamotte and a Knight of the Order of Malta, took over in 1798 and
decided to use the Malta Cross as the House’s crest.
In 1828, Nicolas-Louis Delamotte formed a partnership with Jean-Baptiste Lanson
who, having signed a deed with the wife of the late Nicolas-Louis Delamotte in
1837, gave the company the name of Lanson et Cie.
Lanson et Cie changed its name after Madame Delamotte’s death and became Lanson
Père et Fils. Helped by his two sons Victor-Marie and Henri, Jean-Baptiste
Lanson soon established major customers in Germany, Holland and England.
